Wayne Elementary School

Art Class...
  • Develops creative thinking and problem solving skills
  • Nurtures the natural joy of creating
  • Helps students acquire an appreciation for art created by the great masters and by artisans from many cultures
Our curriculum includes:
  • Production:  Inventive art activities, inspired by works of famous artists, based on the elements of design: line, shape, color, form, texture, value and space.  Lessons are adapted to the developmental level of each grade, beginning with basic skills and concepts in the early years and graduating to more sophisticated and challenging lessons in the upper grades.  Activities include drawing, painting, printmaking and creating three-dimensional media.
  • Art appreciation & criticism:   Learning how to look and speak about art using appropriate vocabulary.  Understanding the role of art in other cultures; function verses aesthetics and developing the ability to identify cultures through symbols.
  • Art history:  Placement of art movements and the artists in the appropriate time period and historical context.
Your involvement is important to the success of our program. I hope you will encourage your child's artistic endeavors by providing art materials at home, displaying your child's work and taking your young artist to museums and galleries.

Thank you for your continued support of the Arts,
Ms. Boyd
