The 3:00 Jazz Band is a training jazz band which meets after school, and is open to RMS students who play instruments commonly used in jazz band who also play in our band or orchestra program (except guitar / piano). While students should have at least one and a half years of experience on their instruments, no previous experience playing jazz is necessary. However, students must exhibit playing skill at the appropriate level necessary for the beginning level jazz band music selected. The ensemble forms each year in early February, and will rehearse for one hour each week from the beginning of February through the end of the final scheduled performance. Students gain valuable instruction and experience playing in the jazz swing style, as well as rock and Latin American styles. Beginning concepts of jazz improvisation are also introduced.
