Coaches and Captains

Our experienced coaches and experienced parent volunteers will continue to lead RHS Raiders Ultimate into our fourth competitive season. Welcome back Coach Ted Coach Nacho and on a very limited basis Coach Pete!

Ted Skaarup returning for his 5th season coaching RHS Ultimate. Ted played Ultimate for Reed College throughout all four of his undergraduate years.  Ted was the Ultimate captain on the field and a philosophy major off the field. Ted is currently a Temple University Law student.  His other experience includes playing on many teams in Oregon and Philadelphia, and extends to coaching youth soccer as well as captaining Ultimate. Ted has been with us from our very first season, in the fall of 2006 and has led our team to MANY successes!

Mark Cornacchio returning for his second season coaching RHS Ultimate. “Nacho” has played Club Ultimate Frisbee for 22 years. He played Open Club from 1986 to 1997 on five different teams, the most notable of which were Double Secret and Rage.  He played with Rage at the 1996 UPA National Championships and 1997 World Ultimate Club Championships in Vancouver, British Columbia.  Mark returned to the 1998 UPA Championships as the Coach of the Peppers, a Philadelphia Women's Club team. He played Co-ed Club with Donkey Bomb and at the 2000 UPA Championships for the Co-ed division. Mark's long tenure with the Master's Club Team OLD SAG lasted from 2000 to 2007.  Old Sag was UPA National Champions in 2002 and took Silver Medal at the 2006 World Club Championships in Perth, Australia.

Introducing Coach Lindi Sabloff. Lindi  is currently the Executive Director of the Philadelphia Area Disc Alliance (PADA).  Over the past four years in this position she has helped the organization base grow in excess of 50% to 1500+ members, has helped oversee the creation of a number of new leagues, and brought the Philadelphia Area High School League (PHUeL) under the PADA umbrella.  She first started volunteering for PADA in 2003 as the Women's League Coordinator and hasn't looked back.  Following her belief that sleep is for the weak, she has signed on to be one of the coaches for the Radnor High School Ultimate team, focusing on helping build the girls team and JV squad.  In addition to playing in as many PADA leagues as possible year round, Lindi is also a member of the eminently silly Germ Circus mixed club team.  She came to the sport late having played soccer from the time she could walk and was a starter on the rugby team at the University of Pennsylvania.  Seeking a kinder, gentler sport Lindi began playing ultimate in 2001.

Pete Letteney who will be helping out RHS Ultimate this spring on a very limited basis. Pete started playing Ultimate during his freshman year at the University of Delaware, and was chosen to play for their A-team that fall. The team won three Regional Titles and competed at the Collegiate National Championships in 2006, 2007 and 2008.  In the summer of 2007, Pete worked as the PADA Youth Outreach Intern, running Ultimate clinics with city recreation centers in Philadelphia. Also during his time in Delaware, he coached Varsity Men's Swimming at Newark High School, leading to three top-three state finishes and one state title. This fall, Pete starts a master's program in International Education Development at the University of Pennsylvania.

Introducing David Brandolph. David has  played ultimate for the past four years starting with his senior year at Lower Merion High School. Following that he played for Hofstra University leading and coaching them to a 12th place finish at regionals. He has played club ultimate for Philly Love and most recently Amp who finished 7th at UPA Club Nationals this past year. David is looking forward to coaching Radnor Ultimate and winning states!

Dr Susan Schlesinger returns as team manager. “Dr. S”, a dentist in Springfield, Delaware County, co-founder of the club, continues to manage the teams needs as we continue to grow and begin our first season as varsity and junior varsity letter recipients. Although Dr S has only played in one Ultimate Frisbee game, she is an expert in the management side of the club. She has done a great deal of research including attending the Ultimate Players and Coaches Conference in Massachusettes 2007 and 2008 and many PHUEL meetings over the last two years. Although her son Brett will be graduating in the spring of ’09 Dr. S has agreed to stay on at least one more year to insure that  the accomplishments of all the volunteers over the last three years will continue well beyond her son’s graduation this spring.

Fall 2008 captains are:

Varsity Captains

Ryan Klinges '09

Brett Schlesinger '09

Kyle Wolf '09

JV Captains

Dan Henkin   '10

Ultimate at RHS:

The Ultimate Frisbee Team was founded in the fall of 2006 by Brett Schlesinger ’09 and his mother Dr. Susan Schlesinger. The “club” currently is run totally by parents and players.

We receive no funding or transportation from the school. We hire and pay our own coaches, provide the funds for coach’s clearance, the insurance necessary for our teams to play, tournament fees and all other costs involved in running the team.

This Spring, at minimum, we will have a Varsity, Junior Varsity (depending on numbers we may have 2 JV teams- JV A and a JVB) and for the first time we will also have a Girl’s team. Note the girls will play and practice both co-ed and separately.

.

We pay all our expenses from dues and fund raising. Some of our fund raisers include,

·         Escrip (we ask every parent to let us sign you up and if you have neighbors friends or relatives willing to, let’s sign them up too!)

·          custom made discs

·          spinning (if our class reaches a certain size),
